Bruce and Cathy Fosbery
1929 Model A Roaster Pickup
Story by - Bill Fleming - Okanagan Chapter
Bruce & Cathy’s pickup originally
belonged to Bruce’s dad. He had purchased it from Slim Burrard in 1950 for the
princely sum of $50.00. One night when the motor conked out a couple of miles
from home, he left the truck at the top of a hill on the West side road. Somehow
the truck ended up over a steep ravine and nearly in Okanagan Lake! Over the
years some of it had been stripped and carried off.
It sat there until 1970 when Bruce dismantled what was left of the truck.
Bruce, Cathy, Keith and Bruce’s mother climbed down to it and helped Bruce
back pack the parts up the hill.
The truck has seen a lot of fun miles
since it was restored in 1979. It
lived in Quesnel for a while, checking out miles and miles of back roads while
it was there. Good old 1929 style road – rough and dusty!
The pickup has been in numerous club events over the years, such as the Orchard Park Car Show, Field of Dreams, Wednesday Night Chapter Tours, Camp Outs at the Bergeron’s, Hedley and Christina Lake. And, in June of ’97, the mother of them all – the All Model A Tour to Whitehorse, Dawson City, Alaska and back home for a grand tour of 5,050 miles with six other Model A’s from the club!
Bruce rebuilt the motor for the Yukon trip, but other than that, the truck has performed admirably since 1979, providing Bruce and Cathy with hours of enjoyment as they tour around in their wonderfully reliable truck!
